Fresh A.I.R. Gallery (Artists In Recovery) is seeking artwork for an exhibition addressing the mental health impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Selected artworks will be on display at the All People Arts Gallery in Columbus from November 9 – December 18, 2020. Works from the exhibit will also be viewable online.
While the physical toll of COVID-19 is well known, the impact of the current pandemic on mental health has been severe and less discussed: According to the CDC, as of June 2020, 40 percent of American adults reported struggling with substance use or mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and traumatic stress. However, stigma, lack of access to healthcare, and other inequities may prevent people from seeking the help they need.
Fresh A.I.R. Gallery and All People Arts seek to facilitate dialogue about mental health and healing during this challenging time, using art as a catalyst. If you are an artist whose mental health has been affected by the pandemic, or who is creating artwork to help process or cope with current circumstances, we invite you to submit artwork for this opportunity. Each artist may submit up to three pieces for consideration. We also encourage you to reflect on your experiences and include a written narrative with your submission to further community conversation. Please prepare your submission according to the guidelines below, and submit your work by the deadline of Thursday, October 15, 2020.
Some questions to consider as you prepare your submission: How has the pandemic impacted your mental health, and how has art helped you navigate or express this? How has your artistic practice or vision changed since the onset of the pandemic? How can art help our community process and heal from the trauma inflicted by the COVID-19 pandemic?
To have your artwork considered for this exhibit, please submit a completed application form and images of no more than three artworks to Fresh A.I.R. Gallery by the October 15 deadline.
There are multiple ways to submit your work:
1 – Via the form at the bottom of this page.
2 – By email: Send a PDF of the completed application form and high-quality images of your work to firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also share your files with this email address via a file-share service like Google Drive or DropBox.

Unsold artwork will need to be picked up from the All People Arts Gallery at the conclusion of the exhibit.
All People Arts has created HOPE Online Gallery as a platform to encourage creative expression to cope with the recent pandemic. This online gallery will provide an opportunity for everyone to share creative visions of hope and health. Submit your best representational and non-representational art related to the theme of hope.
