It Was All A Dream’, curated by the legendary, April Sunami (@ajsunami )!

‘It Was All A Dream’ showcased artwork that allowed us, as viewers, to escape into different realms of dreams, imagination, surrealism, and various states of consciousness and perception.

This was also a very special exhibition, as it will run through our 5 year anniversary as a physical art gallery. What was once a dream, manifested into reality due to the hard work and support of April Sunami, Shelbi Toone, and a team of visionaries from the very beginning. With that being said, it was only right to go back to where it all began and call on April to curate this beautiful show.

In Her Words - An Ode To Nikki Giovanni

“In Her Words, An Ode to Nikki Giovanni” showcased works from the members of The Creative Women Of Color (@creativewomenofcolor ) organization in dedication to world renowned poet, Nikki Giovanni. Nikki is considered to be one of the foremost authors of the Black Arts Movement with numerous pieces of work exploring race, gender, sexuality, and the African American family.

Each member of the CWOC created a piece of work that was inspired by one of Nikki’s poems. The exhibition showcased pieces from all types of mediums.

Chris is a professional artist with almost 30 years of experience and murals all over Columbus, including establishments, such as, @lookoutsupply and @blockfort . He has shown his work in numerous places, including NYC, Los Angeles and even all the way in Hong Kong! Needless to say, you won’t want to miss this show.

Carla: The Essence of Love & Joy

To know Carla Fountaine is to love Carla Fountaine. Carla was, and will always be a very influential figure in the different communities around Columbus, Ohio, and specifically the southside. Without her, All People Arts quite literally wouldn’t be what it is today, and for that we will always be grateful to have had her a part of our team.

All People Arts is whole heartedly honored to dedicate “Carla, The Essence of Joy & Love”, our 2024 Community Art Show to our dear friend, Carla Fountaine!

Carla was a force of nature-free, vulnerable, and deeply committed to her community. Her presence was a blend of understanding and compassion, bringing light into the lives of those around her. Through music and books, she found restoration, navigating both joy and sorrow with a heart full of hope.

All People Arts is so excited to showcase all of the beautiful artwork that our community has trusted us with. There will be art from some of our followers, some of our Parsons Avenue neighbors, staff members and friends! We are so thankful that you all saw value in this show and wanted to help us bring it to life!

“Earthtone is the motif which connects us children of the sun. When they buried us, they forgot we were seeds. We emerged from the soil to express color. You can feel our shades of pigmentation as we pierce through. Pastel melody's echo across the air like ripples in the water. The taste of Mother nature's scent in the air reminds us to come home and pray.”

“The idea for earthtone came from me meditating on what connects me to the people I resonate with the most creatively. How can I articulate that innate vibration we share? The definition of Earthtone is rich, warm colors of a brownish hue. To me this is the perfect definition to describe the frequency I see a lot of my kindred spirits tuned into. Us Erykah Badu and Sunra babies raised by neo soul. Us with a deep reverence for the natural world.”
